Cover Critique - To Kill A Mockingbird

I didn't much love this book.
I read it when I was in high school, and it was compulsory.
And you know how it gets, when people forces you to read something,
it better be real good, but I felt just a little bitter while reading this one.

The top one is the one I have.
And recently they have printed the 50th anniversary edition.
But I realized, a few days ago that they printed another one of those.
It looked like it has been painted or animated. (one on the left)

Maybe it's because I've had my version of the book for so long,
but both of these special editions didn't look quite right.
They look so ... new and modern while the book itself is 50 years old !
Am I being too harsh? Does anybody else prefer these new ones?

I read Beloved by Toni Morrison earlier in the year and somebody recommended that I read To Kill A Mockingbird. Can you believe that I did not know what the story was about previously?? Anyway, I went out and bought a copy - I bought the 50th anniversary edition on the left as I like that cover the best - and now I can't find it! I know I packed it when i went away on holiday and I think I might have left it in our holiday cabin! Thank goodness books are so inexpensive in England as i think I'm going to have to buy another copy.
